WHAT IS INTERFERENTIAL (ELECTRICAL STIMULATION)?
IFT (Interferential Therapy) is a treatment modality that is used to relieve musculoskeletal pain, muscle pain, aches, sprains and strains, and increase healing in soft tissue injuries. Electrical currents are delivered in a crisscross pattern over the targeted area. Interferential therapy is one of the best methods of treatment for alleviating pain. By sending small electrical impulses to stimulate and treat underlying tissue and nerves, this treats pain at the very root. IFT is also known to decrease swelling and inflammation. Interferential also prompts the body to secrete endorphins which lay dormant in the body and are stimulated by these electrical impulses. This helps us heal faster.
FOR WHAT CONDITIONS MIGHT INTERFERENTIAL BE RECOMMENDED?
Back pain, joint pain, fibromyalgia, arthritis, muscle conditioning, muscle injury or trauma, poor muscle strength, spinal cord injury, stroke, nerve inflammation, surgery recovery, cancer related pain, and unitary incontinence.
OFTEN MIGHT I BENEFIT FROM INTERFERENTIAL?
Treatment ranges from daily to twice weekly during the early phases or care. Patients will also continue to received Interferential Therapy at their regular maintenance appointment.
